Dance students impressed the crowd with a range of dazzling performances
Hundreds of students from 35 primary and secondary Catholic schools from across the Diocese showcased their creative talents in a series of music, dance and strings performances throughout June, culminating in the ‘Best Of’ performance on 23 June.
The showcase events demonstrated the high calibre of choral, music and dance work from Catholic schools, under the Parramatta Diocese’s creative and performing arts initiative, CAPTIVATE.
The program provides learning and performance experiences for students, as well as builds expertise and a sense of community across the system. CAPTIVATE is very popular with five new schools joining the program since last year.

ACADEMIC ASSEMBLY We held an Academic Assembly for students based on their Semester 2 2023 reports. They were presented with awards as they had shown persistence in achieving their personal best, and demonstrated pride in themselves and their work. It is with great joy that we, as a community of learners, congratulate and praise the efforts and successes of those among us. We also acknowledged and heard from our Dux of 2023, Siddhi Bilash and were able to present awards to Milan Prasad, Andre Tan and Denzel Tan. OPENING SCHOOL LITURGY AND WATER BLESSING In our 2024 opening school liturgy we established a sacred space we were reminded that “wherever two or more are gathered in Christ’s name, Christ is present.” Just as we established our sacred space, reminded of the rich traditions of our school, we also acknowledged the ancient traditions of the Dharug people. To do so, we began with an Acknowledgement of Country in recognition that the land on which our school is built, is Dharug country, to pay respect to elders, past, present and future and our responsibility in walking together in Reconciliation. At the beginning of the new school year, we were honoured to be joined by Aunty Lin Johnson and Aunty Jean Boney as well as Sister Naomi and Mr John Spradbrow who led us in a Water Blessing. #stclaresrepresent #praisegodbyyourlife

STAGE 6 WESTERN SYDNEY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL VISIT! This was an opportunity for students to understand the university application process, obtain scholarship information and get a general understanding of the university fit. YEAR 11 LEGAL STUDIES! Year 11 Legal Studies took part in a class debate this term. The topic was "should the death penalty exist" and the ladies defeated the gentlemen winning with the affirmative argument. They were all passionate and confident speakers while our judges created a criteria and delivered their verdict with constructive criticism on each argument. YEAR 11 BIOLOGY EXCURSION! Year 11 Biology students gained first hand experience in Scientific field work. They used Scientific equipment to measure the abiotic and biotic factors within the Penrith Lakes ecosystem. FAITH IN ACTION! Our Year 10-12 student leaders recently attended the annual Project Compassion Launch, inspired by the Gospel message from Bishop Vincent, which calls us to be the 'critical yeast' that expands and spreads the goodness of charity to those less fortunate. He urged us to demand more of ourselves by doing more and giving more in this Lenten season and through the Project Compassion campaign. We were also blessed to have Dan Skehan, the Programmes Director of Caritas, present, sharing the practical ways their organisation uses these funds to aid those in need. We will launch our Project Compassion campaign on Ash Wednesday and invite parents and students to heed Jesus's call to give more this Lenten season.
